Clear Aligners at Sydney CBD Dentistry

Clear aligners are removable plastic trays that move teeth in small, planned steps. At Sydney CBD Dentistry, on Level 3 at 70 Pitt Street near Wynyard Station, we offer three aligner systems: Invisalign, Spark and Angel Aligner.

Before recommending any of them, a dentist checks your teeth, gums and bite. Aligners are not suitable for every case, and some people are better served by fixed braces or a referral to a specialist orthodontist.

What Are Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are also called clear braces, invisible aligners or transparent aligners. Each set of trays is made from scans or impressions of your teeth. You move to the next set every one to two weeks, as your dentist directs.

Aligners are usually worn 20 to 22 hours a day. You take them out to eat, to drink anything other than plain water, and to brush and floss.

They are less noticeable than metal braces, but they are not invisible. Small tooth-coloured attachments may be bonded to some teeth, and the trays can be seen up close.

What Can Clear Aligners Treat?

Depending on your assessment, aligners may help with:

  • crowded or overlapping teeth
  • gaps between teeth
  • some overbite, underbite and crossbite concerns
  • teeth that have shifted after earlier orthodontic treatment

More complex bite problems, severe crowding or jaw discrepancies may need fixed braces, a specialist referral or a combination of treatments. We will tell you if aligners are unlikely to achieve what you want.

Invisalign, Spark and Angel Aligner Compared

All three systems work the same basic way: a series of custom trays, planned on software, worn for most of the day. They differ in the company behind them, the tray material and the planning tools. Your dentist recommends a system after your assessment and explains why.

Clear Aligners vs Braces

Fixed braces, either metal or ceramic, are bonded to the teeth and stay in place until treatment ends. They can suit complex movements and don’t rely on you remembering to wear them.

Aligners come out for meals and cleaning, which many adults find easier day to day. Because they are removable, results depend on wearing them as prescribed. Neither option is better for everyone. See braces at Sydney CBD Dentistry and our braces cost guide.

What Happens at Sydney CBD Dentistry

  1. Consultation. We examine your teeth, gums and bite and take x-rays if needed. We also discuss your goals and all your options, including braces or no treatment. Your first clear aligner consultation is complimentary.
  2. Records. Scans or impressions and photos of your teeth.
  3. Treatment plan review. You see a digital simulation of the planned tooth movement. It is a planning aid, not a guaranteed result. You receive a written estimate before you commit.
  4. Wearing your aligners. You change trays as directed and attend regular reviews, typically every four to six weeks.
  5. Retainers. Teeth tend to drift back after treatment, so retainers are needed to hold the result.

Our current price guide estimates Invisalign treatment at $4,200 to $8,990 and Spark or Angel Aligner treatment at $3,700 to $8,490. Where your treatment falls within each range depends on how much movement is needed and how many aligners and reviews your plan involves.

Your first clear aligner consultation is complimentary. Ask us what your estimate includes, such as records, aligners, reviews, refinements and retainers. Interest-free payment plans are available through external providers, subject to their approval. Estimates are valid for six months.
