Begin with a dental assessment
Before whitening, discuss your oral health, previous sensitivity and existing restorations. Ask who will assess and provide the treatment. A professional consultation is an opportunity to understand whether whitening is appropriate, not a promise of a particular result.
Ask what might be causing the colour change and whether another concern needs attention first. Treatment for disease and an elective change in tooth shade are different decisions. You may choose to keep your natural tooth colour.
Compare treatment arrangements
Ask how an in-chair appointment differs from the proposed take-home approach, including supervision, instructions and follow-up. Product strength and exposure time need to follow the professional plan; using more is not a suitable shortcut.
Discuss sensitivity and irritation, how to respond if they occur and when to stop and seek advice. Crowns and other restorations may remain a different shade. Photographs of another person cannot predict your result.
Plan aftercare and costs
Request a written explanation of inclusions, fees and any possible additional care. A historic procedure time or package price is not confirmation of the appointment you will receive.
Follow the instructions supplied for your product and attend review if advised. Ask before repeating treatment or buying further whitening products, particularly if symptoms have developed.
